It’s Feline Pine – nothing else compares. Feline Pine is 100% pine wood. It’s not scented or perfumed. It’s just pine, and it smells great, like fresh cut wood! It comes in two styles: shavings and pellets. I don’t like the shavings because they get stuck to my cats’ long hair, and they get wet, and I have to pick them out. Instead, I just layer a handful or two of pellets underneath their regular litter. They mix it up naturally and you seriously cannot tell that we have litter boxes in our apartment.

You can pick it up at your local Target or Walmart if you’re in a pinch. I buy mine on Amazon because they sell it in 40-lb bags with Prime shipping, whereas the stores only have 20-lb bags. Also this way I don’t have to haul it around because it gets delivered right to my door, saving me time and money.

If you can get your cats to just use Feline Pine, that’s great. Mine were finicky about using it – I don’t think they like the way it feels on their feet. The bag has directions for how to transition your cat from litter to Feline Pine, but I just use it as an additive. It works great and we’re all happy.

Cat Spraying No More

Cats rely on their humans for food, water, social bonding, and clean living conditions. This includes top notch litter box hygiene. Adopt the following four litter box rules so your cats live healthy, happy lives:

  1. + 1 is the number of litter boxes you need to have for your cat(s), where n = the number of cats you have.
    I have 2 cats, so n = 2
    2 + 1 = 3 litter boxes
You could have fewer if you’re diligent about cleaning and your cats get along well together. Just know that n + 1 is the recommended number.
  2. Daily cleaning. Whether you scoop (why are you still scooping?) or use the bag method, daily cleaning is an absolute must. If the litter box is full or dirty, your cats will just “hold it” – which can lead to urinary tract and bladder infections.
  3. Hygiene. Poor litter box hygiene is bad for both you and your cats. Built up waste is a common cause of health problems and easily preventable illnesses. If you don’t feel like scrubbing that old litter box, pick up a new one the next time you’re out buying cat litter.
  4. Staying out late? If you know you’re going to be gone for the night, change the litter box before you leave. Put out an extra disposable litter box in the bathtub so your cats have more options.
